Jon, I’ve been on the same journey, seeing right relationship with Christ as coming before right doctrine. Thanks for sharing.

It’s great to know I’m not alone! So many of us have had the same experience. I’m glad to be feeling more balanced!

I found this so very helpful, thank you. I have seen the negative impacts of theology without spirituality, and sometimes fall into the trap of prioritizing learning over spiritual practice. Listening to sermons is easier than fasting and serving others! My parents have always said 'stay close to Jesus' which seems to be key. I have never thought though about theology growing out of spiritual practice. Food for thought indeed. Thanks again.

Leanne, I resonate with what you said about how easy it is to lean toward learning over practice. It’s a subtle shift, but a big one. I love learning ... but I also know it can feed my vanity in unhelpful ways, especially if I don't have a healthy cadence of spiritual practice.

“Stay close to Jesus.” That's the center of it. Great parents!

Thank you my friend! How is life in Tennessee? Have you settled into your new environment?

Doctrine can become a safe place, it seems to me. Sometimes being safe shuts doors .

Yeah, agreed. It was a way of not getting attacked or hurt if you had it all “right.” I’m glad my doors are open!
